Doctor Who Season 9

Yes, I have finally watched Doctor Who, season 9.

The season starts off with a bang with Darleks, Davros, and Missy. Another highlight are the episodes featuring Ashildr/Me, who deftly demonstrates the problems of immortality. Another set of episodes feature the Zigons and Osgood, where the line between human and not human is deliberately blurred. But the real crown of the season are the final three episodes, where both Clara and the Doctor are forced to face some uncomfortable truths.

You see, ever since Danny Pink’s death, Clara has become more and more reckless. This is a problem for not just her, but also for the Doctor. Her recklessness feeds his own reckless tendencies, while at the same time the Doctor feels responsible for Clara. This is both accurate and inaccurate.

Also, without giving too much away, we get some closure to the question about what happened to Gallifray, and we are reminded why the Doctor’s relationship with his home planet has for a long time been a love/hate relationship.

Peter Capaldi as the Twelth Doctor has never been finer than in the penultimate episode, where essentially he holds the whole episode together on his own, and we see all the many facets that make up the Doctor. All in all, this season is a must-see for fans.
