Magyc and Flyte are the first two tales of Septimus Heap by Angie Sage.
In Magyc, Silas Heap is only an ordinary wizard, but he is a seventh son. So when his wife Sarah is with child a seventh time, there is much anticipation and hope for a seventh son of a seventh son. And indeed, a son is born. While Silas leaves to get herbs from a friend, the midwife says the baby died and takes the corpse and leaves. On his way home, Silas finds an infant in the woods, and is later told by the ExtraOrdinary Wizard Marcia to care for the child and tell no one it isn’t his. The baby is a girl. And this is just the first chapter! Later, Jenna, the girl the Heaps adopted, learns she is really the princess, and there are some bad people after her. . .
Flyte starts out with everything going well. Boy 412 of the Young Army has found he is Septimus Heap and is now aprenticed to Marcia the ExtraOrdinary Wizard, and Jenna is safely in the castle learning to be Queen. Well, not everything is perfect. Septimus’ oldest brother Simon has never accepted his new sibbling and he kidnaps Jenna. And Marcia has an evil shadow following her arround . . .
Not the deepest characters, but if you want a fast paced book full of magic and adventure, this is it.
